Editor in Chief, UCLA Daily Bruin | 2008-2009 academic year
- - As the Editor of the Daily Bruin I manage a staff of over 400 students working every day to produce one of top collegiate publications in the nation.
- - One of the first things I did as Editor was hire a management team of 10 department heads and over 30 assistant editors. I also restructured our production timeline to better meet our deadlines, helped teach leadership training exercises over the summer, and updated our operational policies and procedures.
- - On a day-to-day basis I oversee the production of the newspaper, ensure deadlines are met in all departments, smooth out interdepartmental operations, read and edit content, and interact with the Bruin’s considerable readership.
Director, Populous Project | March 2008 to present
- - As Director of the Populous Project I manage a $275,000 grant I co-wrote and won from the Knight News Challenge.
- - The project aims to develop a new open source web platform that will combine social networking with the distribution of news in a small community.
- - My project was one of 16 groups that won in 2008 out of an applicant pool of over 3,000.
Blogger, PBS Mediashift Idea Lab | June 2008 to present
- - MediaShift Idea Lab is a PBS blog dedicated to exploring innovative new ideas in journalism and new media, and reinventing local news distribution.
- - As a Knight News Challenge winner I was asked to write for the blog, and my entries have included a two-part series on the future of collegiate newspapers and the social consequences of using an iPhone to instantly upload pictures to the internet.
- - The blog has a Technorati rating of 322 and receives monthly traffic in the tens of thousands.
Technician, UCLA Audio Visual Services | 2007-2008 academic year
- - Working for UCLA Audio Visual Services I received a strong foundation in basic sound design and how to operate and troubleshoot a wide variety of audio and visual equipment.
